## Model Details **ZOI VET** is an application within the CarbConnect platform designed for use in veterinary microbiology. It automates the **Zone of Inhibition (ZOI)** measurement process for **antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST)**. The application detects and measures inhibition zones from Petri dish images and determines susceptibility results as: - **Sensitive (S)** - **Intermediate (I)** - **Resistant (R)** The S/I/R result is determined according to the selected bacterial strain and antibiotic. ## Intended Use ZOI VET is intended to support research workflows in veterinary microbiology laboratories by: - Automating inhibition zone detection and measurement from plate images - Standardizing AST result interpretation - Reducing manual workload - Improving consistency and result accuracy The susceptibility interpretation uses the criteria from: **CLSI VET01S ED7:2024** *Performance Standards for Antimicrobial Disk and Dilution Susceptibility Tests for Bacteria Isolated From Animals* Published by the **Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)**. ## Limitations This tool is **strictly intended for Research Use Only (RUO)**. It is **not intended for clinical diagnostics, medical decision-making, or medical procedures**. For additional information, refer to the **ZOI VET Learn More** page on CarbConnect. ## Training Data The training dataset was generated from antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) performed at **CarbGeM Inc.** using: - Representative bacterial strains - Antimicrobial disks - Mueller-Hinton agar Approximately **300 images** of the plates were captured using various smartphone camera models to generate the training dataset. ## Data Acquisition Context The images were collected to represent real AST plate conditions in veterinary microbiology workflows. Variability in smartphone camera models was intentionally included to improve robustness across practical image capture conditions. ## Output Given an input image of a Petri dish plate, the application produces: - Detected inhibition zone measurements - Susceptibility categorization as **S**, **I**, or **R** Outputs depend on the selected bacterial strain and antibiotic context. ## Ethical and Regulatory Notice This repository describes a private research tool.
