# CUHK-X License

Version 2.0

This License governs **all** components of the CUHK-X project, including the
source code, the CUHK-X dataset, derived annotations, data splits, benchmark
definitions, and accompanying documentation (collectively, the "Materials").
It replaces all prior license terms for this project.

## 1. Intellectual Property and Ownership

All intellectual property rights in and to the Materials — including copyright,
database rights, and any related rights — are owned by

(the "Owner"). The AIoT Lab is the originating research group within CUHK.

**All rights not expressly granted in this License are reserved by the Owner.**
Nothing in this License transfers ownership of any Materials, or any
intellectual property therein, to any user.

## 2. Grant of Rights — Non-Commercial Use Only

Subject to the terms of this License, the Owner grants you a worldwide,
royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to
access, use, reproduce, and modify the Materials **solely for non-commercial
research, academic, and educational purposes.**

This grant applies to all components of the Materials, subject to the stricter
dataset terms in Section 5.

## 3. Commercial Rights — Reserved to the Owner

**All commercial rights in the Materials are reserved exclusively to the Owner.**

3.1  No person or entity other than the Owner may use, reproduce, modify,
distribute, sublicense, or otherwise exploit any part of the Materials for any
Commercial Purpose without a separate, prior, written commercial license
granted by the Owner.

3.2  The Owner — and any party expressly authorized by the Owner under a
written agreement — may use and commercialize the Materials. This License does
not restrict the Owner's own use of, or right to license, the Materials to any
third party of its choosing.

3.3  "Commercial Purpose" means any use primarily intended for or directed
toward commercial advantage or monetary compensation, including but not limited
to: incorporating the Materials into a product or service that is sold or
offered as part of a paid offering; using the Materials to provide a paid
service; using the Materials in the development, training, or evaluation of a
commercial product; or any use by or on behalf of a for-profit entity in the
ordinary course of its business.

3.4  To request a commercial license, contact the Owner using the details in
Section 9.

## 4. Source Code Terms

The source code in this repository is licensed under the non-commercial grant
in Section 2. You may use, modify, and build upon the code for non-commercial
research and education, provided that:

(a) the copyright and license notice below is retained in all copies or
    substantial portions of the code;
(b) you do not use the code, in whole or in part, for any Commercial Purpose
    (Section 3); and
(c) you comply with the attribution requirement in Section 7.

## 5. Dataset Terms — Data Use Agreement (Non-Commercial Research Only)

The CUHK-X dataset is made available under a Data Use Agreement (DUA) for
non-commercial research only, and is **NOT redistributable**.

1. **Non-Commercial Use Only** — The dataset may be used solely for
   non-commercial research and educational purposes, and never for any
   Commercial Purpose (Section 3).

2. **No Redistribution** — You may not redistribute, share, mirror, sublicense,
   or make the dataset publicly available in any form, in whole or in part.

3. **Attribution Required** — Any research or publication using the dataset must
   comply with Section 7.

4. **Research Purpose** — The dataset is intended solely for academic research
   in human action recognition, understanding, and reasoning.

5. **Access Control** — You must obtain explicit written permission from the
   Owner before accessing the data.

6. **Compliance** — You must comply with your institution's ethics guidelines
   and IRB/REC requirements when using human-activity data.

7. **No Derivative IP Claims** — You may not claim ownership of, or assert any
   intellectual property right in, the dataset or any direct extraction from it.

## 6. Derived Annotations, Splits, and Metadata

The Owner's derived annotations, data splits, and metadata are licensed under
the **Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License
(CC BY-NC 4.0)**.

You are free to:

- **Share** — copy and redistribute these materials in any medium or format;
- **Adapt** — remix, transform, and build upon these materials,

**for non-commercial purposes only**, under the following terms:

- **Attribution** — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the
  license, and indicate if changes were made.
- **NonCommercial** — You may not use these materials for any Commercial
  Purpose. Commercial use remains subject to Section 3.

## 7. Attribution

Any publication, presentation, model, or other work that uses any part of the

## 8. Termination and Disclaimer of Warranty

8.1  This License, and all rights granted under it, terminate automatically and
without notice upon any breach, including any unauthorized use for a Commercial
Purpose. Upon termination you must immediately cease all use of the Materials
and destroy all copies in your possession or control.

8.2  THE MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS
OR IMPLIED. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE OWNER OR THE AUTHORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM,
DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE MATERIALS OR
THEIR USE.
