Themes like identity, environmentalism, cult indoctrination, death and rebirth cycle are also quite prominent. It's a multi-generational story about relationship between children and their parents. Hime is the mc, even more so than Yuu. In a show where various characters are grappling with their strained parent-child relationship, she stands out for being an orphan who has lived with many parents. She is not a Mary Sue, just a more honest girl, not jaded by shitty parenting. Anoa's redemption at the end is like one of the best things ever from Tomino anime. Jonathan is so fucking overhyped by supposed fans, it's not even funny. He is great and fun to watch, but he is barely in the front and center outside of some episodes. Calling Quincy a female Jonathan is completely missing her character. Higgins, Kanan, Kant etc are all really good side characters that either embody the themes of the show or just fun to watch. It sounds like you are just watching the show through 'hehe mommy issues amirite' meme lens than actually absorbing and engaging with it honestly. |

You can't make any solid argument about cult indoctrination in a show with literal magic brainwashing only Yuu sort of escapes from because he's the main character and also a legit schizo, Victory makes for a more compelling watch if you want that, so does Turn A or even Xabungle. Hime merely exists as a model for Tomino to use in contrast to horrible bitches like Midori, nevermind how Orphan magically reunites her with her actual mother through magic memory mumbo jumbo and makes her cry like a baby about it which makes the \ point rather null because ultimately Hime WAS implicitly just as weak as everyone else to the whole parent complex deal but conveniently avoids dealing with that until the show's over."} |

I have no idea how you can ever say this when Jonathan himself bursts out laughing at the bitter irony and absurdity of it all, Anoa was a mentally broken husk who turned herself into a Char clone and started a genocidal plan because she thought that giving control of Orphan to Jonathan would make him happy and make up for the shitty childhood he had, Anoa up to the very end was still a shitty mother incapable of actually relating to her son and still engaging in her distorted, one way relationship with him to such lengths Jonathan himself could only laugh at how absurd the whole thing was and how he could only vaguely relate to his own mother when she was desperately trying to be somebody else, the only good thing about it is that Jonathan ultimately gets some peace of mind by finally getting a glimpse of (psychopathic) motherly love from that, but it's still rather awkward."} |

It sounds like you are just watching the show through 'hehe mommy issues amirite' meme lens Because there's nothing else of substance to the show, I like BP because I like Tomino and his rants but it's easily his worst show outside of Garzey's Wings, it's a rushed, incoherent mess that doesn't know what it wants to do and ultimately goes nowhere, it doesn't even have many good moments unlike his other shows, it's unfocused, horribly animated when it is animated in the first place and more interesting as a sort of diary on Tomino's mind more than anything else. If you can build nuclear warship, you can cheaply spam networked sensors able to read fine print from the other side of the solar system. Plus, said spaceship would spend long enough in service and in travel to be fully analyzed, if a spy didn't send you its full specs before it was even built. Ironically, whoever made this pic tried too hard to match the NASApunk visual code for realism. If you really want to hide your equipment: put a cover on it. Even fabric will do and be worth the extra kilo. Unlike naval ship it won't have to resist harsh weather and would even help with thermal management (consider the JWST sunshield), cooling the fabric would be easier and protect the structure from thermal fatigue and stuff. So we could get cool looking edgy spaceship without stealth being an option. Once you realize the futility of stealth in space, you can make the interior of your ship the mystery . Thrusters exhaust will give away the mass of a spaceship, but who knows if it is full of missiles or full of assault pods to take over space-greenland? |

If your sensors get blinded/jammed, then how do you get accurate target confirmation at such distances in the hundreds of kilometers? What if you designed your ship to look like a harmless asteroid passing by or hide/ride the tail of a comet? Sounds like a creativity problem. |

Same goes for the returning characters as well. Like... leaving aside the completely mishandled cameo battle with the Soukai High trio, absolutely none of the returning characters needed to have roles in the game with how disconnected GB4 is from the shared setting, despite being marketed as a \ sequel to GB3. You absolutely get the feeling that the GB3 characters were only stapled onto GB4 because the executives and writers had no faith in the game's half-assed plot being able to stand up on its own merits. Misa didn't need to be Lin's legal guardian because Misa in particular being her legal guardian has no actual impact on the plot other than to farm nostalgia. For that matter, Meister Jin could have been a wholeass new character instead because FUCK the kind of character Takuma Nagitsuji turned out to be, when you take into account his actions throughout the Battlogue, and the SIX YEARS of ghosting Misa for incredibly poorly thought out reasons. Zeon's only saving grace was the Solar Ray taking out 1/3 of the entire federation space forces, which really fucked the Federation because its logistics was spread thin across earth and space and made it almost impossible to finish their island hopping strategy all the way to Side 3 and Granada. |

The American release is this week and I have a ticket to see it tonight. Im feeling kinda sick today (chronic illness, not contagious) but I intend to brave it if at all possible because I really want to give this film a fair chance instead of getting all my opinions from the borg collective that is social media. Its getting double featured with EW which is kind of funny because the advertising seems to be hyping the opportunity to see a 30 year old wing movie moreso than the movie which is actually new. Feel free to spoil it I don't have high hopes and will probably post spoilers tomorrow after I've seen it. I just want to talk about anything related to urdr hunt and acknowledge that there's a new movie which isn't *technically* new but its not like anybody actually played the gacha anyways. Chan-Amuro could use a little more development and Chan should replace Kayra in scenes and as the Re-GZ pilot. Other stuff too. In general, there needs to be more talking and interaction. The movie starts at the peak of an arc, but with out the arc, you're just kind of helicoptered to the top of a mountain with no idea of why everyone else up there on the summit matters. But then the show went crazy in the 2nd half and introduced government conspiracies, and the military invading cities. I stopped paying attention. It's clear the author wanted to write about the military and wars. He should have just done that to begin with instead of pretending the show was about mecha bike races. |
