| "abstract": "Background and purpose. Two dimensions ultrasonography is a non-invasive imaging technique that permits in a real-time the visualization of muscle function. The aim of this study is to describe the effects of direct ultrasonographic feedback on learning of quadriceps isometric contraction.\n\nMethods. A real-time ultrasound scanner in B-mode with a 7.5 MHz linear probe was used to offer the subjects (n = 10) the visualization of the transverse section of the quadriceps muscle. To quantiphy the changes the root mean square of the surface integrated electromyography (IEMG) of the rectus femoris during maximun voluntary isometric contraction was measured.\n\nResults. A higher increase of IEMG was shown by a paired «t»-test (two-tail) between pretest and posttest training session in the biofeedback (p = 0.002) and control group (p = 0.018).\n\nConclusions. The visualization of the muscle echographic image during the training may be a new too in the enhancement of muscle force. A large number of sessions or the conversion of the raw ultrasonographic muscle image into more easily perceived feedback could be required for the developed and implementation of this new biofeedback modality with the aim of the enhancement of force", | |
