## The Story

In 1997 — two years before Ohio even created its Task Force on Family Law and Children — a father in Dayton became one of the first men in the state to be legally "defathered." A DNA test proved he wasn't the biological father, but the court had no mechanism to stop a child support order — not even for DNA. His case helped create the paternity fraud protections that now exist in Ohio law.

Then, in 2019, it happened again. A son. Years of fighting just to establish paternity. Years more of being kept away. The same weaponized protection orders. The same system that treats fathers as an afterthought.

Same father. Different county, different system — Hamilton County's bifurcated court forced him to learn an entirely new process from scratch. Same impossible choice: hire a lawyer at $5,000, or represent yourself in a system designed for attorneys. He chose to fight — again. No lawyer. Just statutes, sleepless nights, and a father who refused to lose another child to a broken system.

**He built ProSe AI so no parent would ever have to go through that alone again.**

## The Legal Council — Multi-Agent Debate Engine

ProSe AI isn't a chatbot. It's a **Legal Council** — a team of 6 specialized AI agents that debate, evaluate, and vote to give you the strongest possible legal analysis. Built on [PolyCouncil](https://github.com/TrentPierce/PolyCouncil), running 100% locally.

### How the Legal Council Works

1. **You ask a question** — e.g. "What factors does Ohio consider in custody modification?"
2. **All 6 agents respond in parallel** — each from their specialized perspective
3. **Cross-evaluation** — agents score each other on legal accuracy, jurisdiction, citations
4. **Weighted voting** — the best legal analysis wins through democratic deliberation
5. **Multi-round debate** — toggle on for deeper analysis with configurable rounds

**You get legal analysis that's been stress-tested by an adversary, verified for citation accuracy, and grounded in Ohio law.** Most pro se litigants get a generic chatbot response.

## Why This Matters Now: SB174

Ohio is in the middle of its biggest family law reform in 25 years. [Senate Bill 174](https://www.legislature.ohio.gov/legislation/136/sb174) — currently pending in the Ohio House — will:

- **Eliminate "custodial parent" labels** that turn parenthood into a competition
- **Expand best interest factors from 9 to 26** — giving courts a clearer roadmap
- **Maximize parenting time** with both parents when safe
- **Require written findings** if a judge rejects a jointly filed plan
- **Simplify paternity proceedings** under §3111.14
