on Friday evening, where he discussed China’s economy and his assessment of US-China ties, among other issues.
China’s economy rose at the slowest pace since early 2023 in the third quarter, according to official statistics, growing at 4.6 per cent in July to September which was 0.1 per cent below the pace in the previous quarter.
“There are some reasons which we can be confident that this is a country which is going to be there for a very long time,” he said. “Even the factors which hold it back, for example, the fact that its population and workforce is not growing, are not things which have to bind and to paralyse it.”
He explained that Beijing’s recent move to gradually raise the retirement age from 60 to 63 and 55 to 58 over the years, for men and women respectively, would allow for “better use of the population”.

According to Lee, China rural population, which accounts for 35 per cent of its 1.4 billion-strong population, could also be another way for the country to continue strengthening its workforce as it undergoes urbanisation.
“These are all ways in which China can continue to grow, so that’s the first reason I think we should not think that China has peaked,” he said.
The geostrategic environment had also become less favourable for China, added Lee, pointing to tensions with Europe and the US which had spilled over into the realm of economics.
“Foreign investments need more encouragement to come into China. The export markets are not as open as they used to be, so that’s another factor which influences China’s, not just the growth, but also the upgrading and transformation.”
Due to these shifts in the international arena, Beijing’s priorities have changed as well, shifting its emphasis from the economic to political, according to him.
“The government will give reassurances that they do want the private sector to have an important role. They do want entrepreneurs to have confidence but the national security considerations are important, the political considerations cannot be ignored and that has an impact [on the Chinese economy].”

Responding to a question about how Singapore decided which entrepreneurs to allow into the country, Lee said the republic was “open to everybody”, though he sent a stern warning that those who moved over should still follow its laws and integrate into society.
“For example, we may be not as poorly off as we used to be but we try very hard not to flaunt wealth, success. If you have a big car, please don’t drive it down at a high speed down Orchard Road in the middle of the night,” he said.
His comments come shortly after the government introduced a slate of new measures to strengthen its anti-money-laundering regime, following a billion-dollar case involving foreign nationals of Chinese descent which grabbed headlines when it first came to light in August 2023.
On whether the government was concerned that Chinese companies were moving to the city state to distance themselves from their Chinese roots, a trend known as “Singapore washing”, Lee said: “Nobody believes that just because a company is in Singapore, that means it is a Singapore-owned company.”
So even though TikTok has moved to Singapore and has a Singaporean chief executive officer, “everybody knows” that it falls under its parent company ByteDance, a Chinese tech giant, he added, though he pointed out that there are many companies from other parts of the world based in Singapore as well.
Lee stepped down from his position as prime minister and handed over the reins to successor Lawrence Wong in May this year.
https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/3283003/singapores-ex-pm-lee-hsien-loong-says-unwise-write-china-despite-economic-headwinds
Others
China’s economic potential”. £1bn (£1bn) £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn £2bn China-Singapore partnership, a move that has boosted the country’s economy, according to Chinese Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. The test also shows how the laptop's weight is evenly distributed, ensuring the computer won't slide off your lap or lift off the desk.

I even liked how the bottom of the display extends past the laptop, lifting the machine a little when you open it. This small design flourish does two things.

Also: One of the most versatile laptops I've tested is a crowd-pleaser with solid hardware

First, the extra space between the Prestige 13 and the surface it's sitting on allows for better airflow and ergonomics. Your hand rests at an angle when on the wrist rest. Combined with the soft, bouncy keyboard, the end result is a very comfortable typing experience. I don't believe I've ever tested a laptop with the same comfort level as MSI's machine.

Speaking of the display, it's important to mention that it is a 2.8K OLED screen. The image quality is stunning, the colors are exceptionally vibrant, and everything looks crystal clear. I loved the display; however, I did have one problem with it. The bezels around the glass are too thick, encroaching on the screen's space. The display is already small at 13.3 inches, but the thick bars surrounding it make the screen feel even smaller.

This problem became noticeable when I opened a new document on Google Docs and was greeted by what seemed to be a cramped window layout. Even when I hid portions of the tab I was on, everything still looked cluttered. It would've been great if MSI had put the 5MP webcam into a lip jutting out from the top of the display; doing so would've given the OLED screen more room.

Working on a 13-inch display is something that takes getting used to, and adjusting to a higher resolution is one way around the smaller physical space. However, that results in smaller text and icons, something not everyone will feel is a trade-off that's worth it.

Also: I tested Acer's new business-friendly Chromebook and it nails all the essentials for pro users

In order to test its performance, I ran the Prestige 13 through a series of tasks. I opened as many windows, tabs, and apps as I could to see if there would be any slowdown -- and there was. The laptop froze a few times as it struggled to support everything, although it quickly returned to normal after a few seconds.

Other tests involved running benchmarking apps, and the results were impressive. On PCMark 10, the laptop initially earned a high score of 6,333. The app showed the computer does very well when performing general office workloads.

MSI's Prestige 13 also has a wealth of AI features, the most impressive of which is the MSI Center app. The software houses several tools that can tweak the device's performance, with the most impactful being Extreme Performance. Activating the mode pushes the laptop as hard as it can go, and the boost makes a notable difference.

Also: This Asus has one of the best OLED displays I've seen, and I've tested hundreds of laptops

I put MSI's model through PCMark 10 again while under Extreme Performance. The second test score jumped to 6,697, and the Digital Content Creation results were boosted significantly. This means the Center app allows the Prestige 13 to become more capable of editing and rendering videos. It expands the device's use cases into areas it normally isn't able to tackle as well. The one downside with the mode is that it immediately turns on the cooling fans, turning a quiet laptop into a noisy one. It's like a jet engine.

Battery life is another area where the MSI Prestige 13 excels. The computer consistently lasted a solid 12 hours on a single charge when performing our usual laptop tests.

ZDNET's buying advice

Prices for the MSI Prestige 13 AI Evo start at $1,399 right now while it's on sale on Amazon. As I said earlier, it is a little expensive, but well worth the investment. The top-notch Intel Core Ultra 7-258V processor, OLED display, and lightweight design work together with a lightweight form factor to make this laptop one of my favorites of the year.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/one-of-the-best-ultraportable-laptops-ive-tested-this-year-isnt-by-asus-or-lenovo/
Others
MSI's Prestige 13 AI Evo is a great work laptop. The bride's sister took to Reddit to share the shocking tale, revealing that the photographer seemed "off" from the start of the wedding.

Things took a turn for the worse at the reception when the photographer asked if he could grab something to eat.
