Official Carrom Rules

Setup

  • 19 pieces: 9 white + 9 black + 1 red Queen
  • Queen at center, surrounded by 6 alternating pieces, then 12 more forming the outer ring

Shooting (Classic)

  • Striker must rest on the baseline strip (between the two red dots)
  • Flick the striker to hit the carrom-men
  • White player goes first

Pocketing

  • Pocket your own colour → shoot again
  • Pocket opponent's piece → lose turn (it stays pocketed and counts for them)
  • Pocketed pieces stay pocketed — they don't return

Queen (Red)

  • Can be pocketed any time after sinking your first own piece
  • Must be covered by pocketing one of your own pieces in same or next strike — otherwise Queen returns to centre
  • Queen must be pocketed before your last piece

Fouls

  • Striker pocketed → one of your already-pocketed pieces returns to centre + lose turn (if none yet, you owe one)
  • Piece jumps off board → returned to centre
  • Sinking your last piece before covering Queen → lose board, -3 pts + 1 pt per opponent's remaining
  • Sinking opponent's last piece → you lose the board, -3 pts

Scoring

  • Winner of a board = 1 pt per opponent's piece left
  • +3 bonus if winner covered the Queen
  • Match: first to 25 pts (or 8 boards) wins

Team Carrom (4 Players)

  • P1 + P3 = team (white), P2 + P4 = team (black)
  • Teammates sit OPPOSITE each other
  • Turn order is clockwise: P1 → P2 → P3 → P4
  • Each team shares colour and score
