Steps 3, 4, 6, and 7 of the plan (maze, GSM8K, Qwen3, and the Qwen3 post-hoc analysis) all exited 137. The root cause is a single dominant constraint: the sandbox cgroup exposes only 1 CPU core (evidence_summary.json cpu_note), and verl's Ray multi-actor coordination (TaskRunner + WorkerDict + register_center, plus vLLM engine init for the language-model runs) is latency-bound on IPC and never finishes initialization on one core. The agent tried four different Ray-init strategies before concluding it was irreducible here (replication_log.json step 3 notes). This blocker is unrelated to the RL objective or any code the paper contributed; the maze model is 7.6MB and trivial for the GPU. On top of that, the Qwen3 experiments (C2/C7/C8/C9/C19/C20) also exceed the available hardware: the paper trains on 4 nodes x 8 H200 = 32 GPUs, versus a shared 4x A100 node here. So the score reflects 'could not exercise most of the paper in this environment,' not 'the paper's results did not hold.' The one thing that did run, C3, is a control experiment that does not depend on Ray, and it reproduced the claimed behavior precisely.
