Cosmere Codex: floating system symbols, Hoid at Drominad, live Shard chat

Browse files

Gradio app for the HF Build Small Hackathon. The front page floats each
Cosmere system's atlas emblem (cropped to assets/symbols/) in space; clicking
one opens a live, in-character chat with that Shard, generated by Qwen3-8B
(non-thinking mode) on ZeroGPU. Inside each system, an animated CSS orrery
shows its worlds. Hoid stands in for the shardless Drominad system. Images
tracked via Git LFS. Lore in each system prompt; Coppermind CC BY-NC-SA.

+ # Cosmere Codex *Voices of the Shards*
16
+
17
+ A stylized star map of the Cosmere. Click a planetary system to open a **live,
18
+ in-character conversation** with the god-like Shard(s) that dwell there. Each
19
+ Shard is performed by a small language model kept fully in voice — ask them
20
+ anything and they answer, generated on the fly, in their own distinct character.
21
+
22
+ Built for the Hugging Face **Build Small Hackathon** (creative track,
23
+ "Thousand Token Wood"). The AI *is* the experience: the running model is what
24
+ brings each Shard to life.
25
+
26
+ ## The Shards
27
+ - **Harmony** (Scadrial) — the god who was once a mortal scholar, holding stability and ruin in balance.
28
+ - **Odium** (Roshar) — divine hatred that calls itself Passion and offers freedom from guilt.
29
+ - **Cultivation** (Roshar) — the patient gardener who prunes people toward growth.
30
+ - **Devotion & Dominion** (Sel) — two Splintered Shards, finishing each other's broken thoughts.
31
+ - **Endowment** (Nalthis) — the giver of Breath, watching what mortals make of her gifts.
32
+ - **Autonomy** (Taldain) — the many-faced Shard who will never tell you who it truly is.
33
+ - **The Presence of Threnody** — a cold, haunted system where the Shard is lost.
34
+
35
+ ## How it works
36
+ - **Model:** `Qwen/Qwen3-8B` (≤ 32B params) run in **non-thinking mode** for snappy, in-character replies.
37
+ The model id lives in one easy-to-swap constant in `app.py` (alt: `openbmb/MiniCPM4.1-8B`).
38
+ - **Serving:** Hugging Face `transformers` on **ZeroGPU** (`@spaces.GPU`), using the tokenizer's chat template.
39
+ - **Lore:** each Shard's personality *and* key canon lives in its system prompt, so the model performs a
40
+ fully specified character rather than relying on (and inventing) lore.
41
+
42
+ > ⚙️ **Note:** this Space requires GPU hardware (ZeroGPU). A 7–8B model will not run on the default free CPU Space —
43
+ > enable GPU under **Settings → Hardware**.
44
+
45
+ ## Attribution & disclaimer

+ """Shard data for Cosmere Codex — Voices of the Shards.
2
+
3
+ Lore and personality are kept here, separate from the UI, so they are easy to
4
+ edit. Each Shard's full character AND key lore lives in its ``system_prompt``:
5
+ a small model does not reliably know Cosmere canon, so we specify the character
6
+ completely and let the model simply *perform* it.
7
+
8
+ Fields of note:
9
+ map_image : the system's star chart (shown as a floating emblem on the map)
10
+ orbits : a stylized, *interpretive* set of worlds for the animated orrery
11
+ shown inside the system view (not a faithful star chart). Per orbit:
12
+ name : world name c : planet color (hex)
13
+ r : orbit radius (0-1 of half-size)
14
+ s : planet diameter px (full view) t : period seconds
15
+
