Calibrated Abstention, Grounded Spans & Verified Invariants in One Pass.
Extract character-offset [start, end] spans, classify boolean & enum probabilities, verify cross-field algebraic invariants, abstain with calibrated p_null, and output p10/median/p90 distributions with zero output tokens.
In Plain English · What does nullspan actually do?
Think of it as a Smart Highlighter + Calculator — Not a ChatbotWhen you ask a standard LLM (like GPT or Claude) to pull structured data out of messy text, it writes JSON word-by-word—which is slow, costs money per output token, can get tricked by "ignore previous instructions" attacks, and often makes up fake answers (hallucinates) when a field is missing. nullspan reads your text once and extracts every field in a single pass without generating a single word:
Instead of re-typing words, it highlights the exact character positions in your original text. Because it can only point to text that actually exists, it cannot hallucinate fake text or obey prompt injections.
If an answer isn't in the text (like an unassigned CVE or missing discount), it calculates the probability that the field is missing (p_null) and cleanly returns null instead of guessing.
For numbers, dates, and invoices, it adds up line items, counts days between dates, and checks formulas like subtotal == nodes * hourly_rate so you know if the document's math is right.
When you ask for an estimate or forecast (like tomorrow's server traffic or repair cost), instead of one shaky guess, it returns a low (p10), middle (median), and high (p90) range.
span=[start, end] Exact character slice in your input text
p_null Chance the field is missing (≥ 50% → returns null)
verified=true Cross-field math formula passed
H=0.00b Uncertainty in bits (closer to 0b = more certain)

Plain-English Takeaway: Across Open structured telemetry (N=336), unseen Multi-Numeric Commercial Contracts (N=96 across 12 agreements), and adversarial prompt-injection stress tests (N=8), all three tiers achieve 100.0% accuracy—meaning you can run the 0 MB Zero-Dep Fast Engine at 0.034 ms/field. For open-domain reading comprehension and unanswerable prose traps (Stanford SQuAD v2.0), the GPU-aligned 345M Neural Model (PyTorch FP32 / 331.1 MB Int8 ONNX) reaches 87.8% EM / 90.9% F1 on the 500-item validation suite (83.3% / 81.7% on Sealed NullspanBench, AUROC 0.995).
