# Agent Name Service (ANS)

Agent Name Service (ANS) is an open system for establishing verifiable identity for AI agents. It anchors agents to domain-based identities, enabling secure discovery, provenance, and interoperability across ecosystems.

## Why this matters

In multi-agent systems, it’s not enough to discover agents — systems must be able to verify:

- Who created the agent
- Whether it is authentic
- What version is being interacted with

Without this, trust does not scale.

## What ANS introduces

- Domain-based identity for agents
- Cryptographic verification
- DNS-backed resolution
- Interoperability across platforms

## Open questions

- Should agent identity live at the application layer or the internet layer?
- How should trust signals propagate across agent ecosystems?
- What standards are needed for interoperability?
