| Science Direct Refine your Search The Refine filters feature shows you the number of documents in your search results, in a variety of categories. It uses to refine your search results list by year, publication title, topics, and content type. It is located on the left side of your search results list. Year The publication year of an article. Years are listed in descending order. If documents from more than 20 years are found by your search, the first 20 years are listed in the Refine filters panel and the remaining years are merged into one category. Publication Title The title of the journal or book in which a document was published. Topics The main subjects of a document. To determine a topic, the entire document is processed and key terms are extracted. These terms are weighted for the frequency of occurrence and placement in the article. The top 10 terms appear in Refine filters as topics. Content Type Journal - Includes journals and book series. Book series : an open-ended, usually hardcover, set of books with a series title and volume number. Book Series always have an ISSN and volumes and usually also have an ISBN. | Khalifa University Libraries have acquired four new Self-Check machines to help our patrons to be able to more quickly and easily manage their library tasks. There are three of these machines at the Main Campus Library, one on each floor (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), and one at Habshan Library, on the Ground Floor. The machines are all located near the library entrance of those floors. Using these machines, you accomplish the following library tasks without having to get assistance from library staff members: Borrow Items Return Items View Your Account Renew Items How to Borrow Items Using Self-Check From the Self-check menu, select "Checkout" Scan your KU ID's barcode by passing it through the red laser on pad below the screen: Place the item(s) that you want to borrow on the scanning pad below the screen. Do not scan the barcodes with the laser; just set the book(s) on the pad. You may place more than one item on the pad at a time. Leave the item(s) on the pad until the system confirms that the checkout process is complete. This will be shown on the screen when all items have turned green and a due date is listed. When you have processed all the items that you want to borrow, click the "Done" button on the screen. You will be given an option to print a paper receipt. If you want a printed receipt, click the "Print Receipt" button. The machine will print your receipt and it will be dispensed to the right of the scanning pad. You may now take the item(s) off the pad. The process is now complete. You should receive an email confirmation of the item(s) that you checked out, along with the due date of each. If the machine cannot check out the item, it will display a red-highlighted error. If this happens, please contact a library staff member to resolve this issue. Participants are able to prepare homework by watching a video that the teacher has put online. This way of mobile learning is relatively less interactive. It's more about individual consuming. There is no interaction with teachers or other students, which makes it an asynchronous way of learning . Interaction during lessons If you do want to have some more interaction, you can use mobile devices during your lessons. An example of this is asking questions during your instruction.
