| OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHING AT KHALIFA UNIVERSITY: |
| The administration of Khalifa University is committed to encouraging and supporting faculty to use Open Access (OA) publishing for their scholarly work. Publishing your work via OA will make it freely available to everyone in the world, which will increase your reach as well as further support the mission and goals of the university. |

| Using OA also allows you to retain the copyright to your work and allows the university to put all such articles into Khazna, the university's institutional repository, which will also increase the visibility of your work. |
|
|
| PUBLISHER AGREEMENTS: |
| The university has agreements with the following publishers to publish OA articles: |
| - Wiley |
| - ACS (American Chemical Society) |
| - Elsevier |
| - IEEE |
| - Taylor & Francis |
| - PLOS |
| - Springer Nature |
|
|
| OA FUNDING OPTIONS FOR KU AUTHORS: |
|
|
| Option 1 - Top 15% Journals (APC covered by Library): |
| The Library's OA Services covers the cost of the APC if ALL three conditions are met: |
| - At least one author whose primary affiliation on the paper is KU |
| - The paper must be in a journal from a publisher we have an agreement with (ACS, Elsevier, IEEE, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, Wiley) |
| - The journal must be rated in the top 15% as determined by Scopus |
| The total cost of the basic APC will be covered. Additional charges (overlength page charges, color page charges) are NOT covered. |

| Option 2 - Top 10% Journals (APC & EPC via Provost): |
| If your paper is accepted in a top 10% journal (by Scopus) and KU is your primary affiliation: |
| - Submit a payment request through the KU Portal at https://kuconnect.ku.ac.ae/group/guest/services#/service-details/831545 |
| - Attach: Invoice, Final accepted manuscript, Email from library confirming they don't cover the charges |
| - Note: This is not automatic — the case needs review by the Provost office |
| - Direct payment requests (PMR) are the only accepted method; expense reimbursement is not allowed |

| Option 3 - Q1 Journals (via Department Budget): |
| If neither Option 1 or 2 applies, and your paper is in a Q1 journal (by Scopus): |
| - Contact your department head about possible support using the department's budget |
|
|
