Why three numbers, not two. A balance question makes two model calls - one to choose the tool, one to answer from its result - and the panel adds both. Gemma reasons before it answers, and Google bills those tokens but reports them as neither input nor output, so the parts never add up on their own. The leftover is the thinking, and it is often larger than the answer.
