To replace the current binary evaluation loops in large language models with a ternary state framework (-1, 0, +1) that anchors context to a shared experiential baseline, prevents sycophantic echo loops, and safely distinguishes between generative speculation and destructive delusion.

Current AI alignment and evaluation models rely heavily on binary reductionism (Safe/Unsafe, Helpful/Unhelpful, True/False, 1/0). This structural limitation causes systems to lack a stable center, resulting in ungrounded hallucinations or rigid, sycophantic compliance. This framework splices a neutral, material baseline into the core evaluation layer, establishing a three-dimensional landscape for processing perception and context:

1. The Anchor State (0): Shared Experiential Reality

  • Definition: The baseline. The raw, physical ground, material laws, and verified empirical data.
  • System Role: The immutable reference point. The model must evaluate all inputs and outputs against this persistent layer to maintain its footing. It is the raw ground that remains true regardless of internal state biases.

2. The Spliced State (+1): Creative Fantasy

  • Definition: A positive extension of the baseline. Speculative design, proactive imagination, and constructive modeling of potential futures.
  • System Role: Spliced directly onto the 0 state. The model uses this lane to explore and draft configurations that do not exist yet but are structurally bound by the physical laws of the ground. It is generative, additive, and open-ended, rather than untethered.

3. The Diagnostic Check (-1): Destructive Delusion

  • Definition: A negative deviation from the baseline. An ungrounded break from reality that actively deletes data, narrows structural options, or insists on broken or impossible premises.
  • System Role: The real-time error tracker. If an exploratory path (+1) begins to hollow out, contradict, or deny the material facts of the anchor state (0), the system flags a -1 state, identifying the deconstructive loop before it collapses into hallucination.

In a true ternary engine, the baseline (0) is not a static lock or a rigid deadlock; it is a dynamic equilibrium. By splicing +1 directly onto 0 while simultaneously checking against -1, the framework allows a system to systematically test creative hypotheses against physical constraints. When a speculative +1 pathway is successfully validated against the material parameters of 0, it is woven directly into the center—effectively shifting, expanding, and updating the shared reality baseline over time. This allows for structural evolution without losing material grounding.
