| > Minecraft Java mods: loaders (Fabric/Forge/NeoForge/Quilt), mods folder, versions, logs. | |
| ## Mod folder and format | |
| `.minecraft/mods/` (or the launcher instance's `mods/` folder). Mods are `.jar` files, not extracted. The mod loader and the Minecraft version must both match the mod file. | |
| ## Sources | |
| Modrinth > CurseForge > GitHub Releases. Modpack manifests (Modrinth `.mrpack`, CurseForge manifest) list exact files. | |
| ## Compatibility | |
| Match loader (Fabric/Forge/NeoForge/Quilt) AND exact MC version. Required libraries (Fabric API, Architectury, Cloth Config, etc.) are separate downloads: read each mod's dependency list. | |
| ## Logs | |
| `.minecraft/logs/latest.log` and `crash-reports/`. The crash report's "Suspected Mods" and the first `Caused by:` line usually name the culprit. For texture/resource-pack work, load the `texture-patch-hunt` module. | |
