Grimmelshausen โ Frรผhneuhochdeutsch
A German language model that speaks Early New High German.
Grimmelshausen is a fine-tune of Qwen3-4B that answers questions, explanations, and stories in archaic literary German โ vivid turns of phrase, long sentences, obsolete forms. The name invokes Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen, author of the baroque picaresque novel Simplicissimus; linguistically, the model is oriented towards the literary language of the 17th century (Frรผhneuhochdeutsch / Early New High German).
What Grimmelshausen can do
- Answers questions in archaic literary German
- Tells stories in a baroque narrative voice
- Explains facts in vivid, literary language
Example
Prompt: Schreibe ein Gedicht รผber Kรผnstliche Intelligenz.
Antwort:
Ich bin doch nur ein Bild, ein Spiegel, ein Scherz;
ein Kind, das mich liebt, weil ich es lehre;
eine Stimme, die mir nachahmt, was ich nicht weiร;
Usage
Ollama
ollama run --think=false Grimmelshausen
The --think=false parameter suppresses the reasoning blocks that the Qwen3 base model tends to emit on complex questions. Alternatively, the model can be created from the bundled GGUF file and the Modelfile:
ollama create Grimmelshausen -f Modelfile
Transformers (LoRA adapter)
The lora-v3/ directory contains the fine-tune in PEFT form. It is loaded on top of the base model:
from peft import PeftModel
from transformers import AutoModelForCausalLM, AutoTokenizer
model = AutoModelForCausalLM.from_pretrained("Qwen/Qwen3-4B")
model = PeftModel.from_pretrained(model, "./lora-v3")
tokenizer = AutoTokenizer.from_pretrained("./lora-v3")

Limitations
- Arithmetic tasks are often answered inaccurately.
- Outside the training content, the model tends to give imaginative rather than factually exact answers.
- The literary style deliberately takes precedence over sober precision.
