Is the `license: mit` on these weights intentional?

Hi Alexandre — thank you for demucs, and for putting the weights on the Hub.

I maintain a small paid tool that uses htdemucs (signature 955717e8) as the
first stage of an analysis pipeline. Users upload their own audio; we extract
per-instrument measurements and show them back. We never redistribute the
weights and never republish the separated stems.

I want to make sure I'm respecting your intent, and I've found two things in
the record that point different ways:

  • In demucs#267 (2022), #327 (2022) and #508 (2023) you wrote that the weights
are not covered by the MIT license and are "provided for research purpose",
    citing the MusDB dataset terms.
  • This repo, published 2026-07-11, carries license: mit in the model card.

Does the MIT tag here reflect a deliberate change for these weights, or is it a
default from the export tooling and the research-only position still stands?

Either answer is completely fine — I'd just rather know than assume. Happy to
switch models if commercial use isn't intended.

Thanks either way.

Hi Alexandre,
I’m also interested in clarification on this. I’m currently evaluating HTDemucs for a personal music-remixing application and would like to know whether the current 955717e8 weights may be used for local/private testing and, separately, for server-side inference in an online application without redistributing the weights.
Thanks!

Hi Alexandre, thanks for Demucs. I'm building a paid desktop DJ app and would like to ship the unmodified htdemucs weights, converted to ONNX, inside it. Could you confirm that the weights are released under the MIT license and can be used in a commercial product? If so, is there attribution you'd like? Thank you.
