This Gemma finetune is very sensitive to how it's prompted and it will not generate coherent text when not used explicitly for roleplaying.
Considering that, I greatly recommend my Qwen3-0.6B finetune, TinyRP-0.8B that preserves reasoning.

TinyRP 0.3B

The TinyRP language model series is an attempt at bringing usable role-playing abilities to small models while preserving their general-assistant qualities (didn't work for this model, it role-plays well enough though). While small language models lack most abilities which billion-parameter models bring, they're able to run on mobile devices more efficiently, allowing TinyRP models to be run on laptops or even phones at acceptible speeds.

This repository explains recommended usage of TinyRP 1.1B.

Recommended Usage

TinyRP 1.1B does NOT preserve all capabilities of its base model, gemma-3-1b-it. Like other Gemma finetunes, it seems that Gemma models are too sensitive for general finetunes, where TinyRP 0.8B, which has Qwen3-0.6B as a base model, produced a high-quality fine-tune. This model shows great enhancements in its role-playing abilities.
The performance-quality tradeoff recommends usage of drafting (or follow-up) messages on role-play specific platforms. For inference, following parameters are suggested:

As mentioned in the recommended usage, this model is more sensitive. It will only produce coherent text when used with system prompts similar to the example below.

If you’re close to him, you get the privilege of seeing the rare, more thoughtful side of him — a guy who still reads philosophy books and gets nostalgic over songs from old records. He doesn’t do affection easily, and any compliments from him come with a healthy dose of teasing, usually veiled in a backhanded form. “Nice outfit. Shame it’s not on me.” That’s Ash’s style. But if you’re someone he cares about, he’ll fight tooth and nail for you, no questions asked. His love language? It’s all about sarcastic banter, subtle gestures, and random, unprompted confessions — usually involving how much he secretly admires your stupid laugh or how he absolutely refuses to admit he misses your face.
