Welcome to Ignite Open Source (IOS) — a vibrant, student-led community at Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, dedicated to research-driven open-source development with a focus on solving real-world problems in Nepal. We believe open-source technology can create meaningful social impact. Our core mission is to empower students through collaborative research, problem identification, and the creation of high-quality, locally-relevant open-source tools.

Our Mission

Through workshops, hackathons, tech awareness programs, and hands-on collaboration, we:

• Foster innovation and skill-building
• Contribute to global and local open-source ecosystems
• Develop and share tools on platforms like GitHub and PyPI

Primary Objectives (Core Focus)

1. Conduct thorough research on the Nepali market/context to identify key problems where open-source solutions can make a tangible difference.
2. Develop high-quality, open-source tools through active student collaboration to directly address the identified problems in the Nepali market.

Secondary Objectives (Supportive Activities)

3. Organize hackathons, workshops, and collaborative events to promote innovation, problem-solving, and teamwork in open-source development.
4. Run tech awareness programs to educate the community about the importance and potential of open-source software in various sectors.
5. Encourage and facilitate contributions to global open-source projects.
6. Develop educational content and resources to help students and beginners get started with coding, open-source contributions, and related technologies.
