Kooma — AI that speaks Bambara

Kooma is an AI suite built for the Bambara language (Bamanankan): text-to-speech, transcription, translation, subtitling, video dubbing and voice cloning, available through a web console and an OpenAI-compatible API.

Bambara is spoken by millions of people in Mali, Ivory Coast and across West Africa, and has been one of Mali's official languages since the Constitution of 22 July 2023. Most language technology still treats it as an afterthought. Kooma exists to change that: Bambara first, with French, English and other major languages alongside.

What you will find here

  • Reference material on the Bambara language — orthography and normalization conventions, structured language facts, verified everyday phrases. Free to use, built to be cited.
  • Model cards for the Kooma models available through the API (text-to-speech, transcription, translation). Weights are not distributed; the cards document capabilities, languages, limits and responsible-use rules.
  • A live demo Space to hear Bambara speech synthesis and try translation without an account.
  • A collection of public Bambara speech and language resources, ours and others'.

Kooma in numbers

  • 40+ Bambara voices, men and women
  • 14 languages ↔ Bambara for translation
  • 7 tools on one platform: text-to-speech, translation, transcription, subtitles, dubbing, voice cloning, video studio
  • One API, OpenAI-compatible: https://api.kooma.ai/v1

Responsible use

Voice cloning on Kooma requires the documented consent of the person whose voice is cloned. Bambara content produced on the platform is validated with native speakers. We do not publish training data, model weights, or per-voice audio samples.
