Script for Apple Silicon
Script generated by gpt-oss-120b, modified from the original demo/inference_from_file.py.
Usage
Usage and dependencies are exactly the same as the original demo/inference_from_file.py script.
Tested on M4 Max 128GB, works for both 1.5b and 7b models.

Thanks for your contribution. This commit should work for you, too. Just pull the latest code and try it.
Could you share how to setup the environment so we can run VibeVoice on Mac Silicon?
LMX is a way to go. Running on CPU is not a good choice.
Could you please update the "installation" section for Silicon Mac?
https://github.com/microsoft/VibeVoice?tab=readme-ov-file#installation
I want to make sure having a good combination of dependencies and their versions so I run VibeVoice on my Mac.
@vuhung
You can manage your environment with either conda, venv or other ways. After that, simply run pip install -e . β it should work fine on your Mac.
Thanks @YaoyaoChang
I get the demo running on my Silicon Mac.
Here is what I did
# 0) Clone the repo
gh repo clone microsoft/VibeVoice
# 1) From the repo root
cd VibeVoice
# 2) Create & activate a venv (Python >= 3.9)
python3 -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate
# 3) Upgrade pip/setuptools/wheel
pip install -U pip setuptools wheel
# 4) Optional: if you hit media build issues, install ffmpeg
# brew install ffmpeg
# 5) Install the repo (editable) with its dependencies from pyproject.toml
pip install -e .
# 6) Prefetch the model weights from Hugging Face before running the model.
huggingface-cli download microsoft/VibeVoice-1.5B --repo-type model
huggingface-cli download microsoft/VibeVoice-Large --repo-type model
# XX) Inference
python demo/inference_from_file.py --model_path microsoft/VibeVoice-1.5B --txt_path demo/text_examples/1p_abs.txt --speaker_names Alice
Great to see that you are running the inference. We would greatly appreciate any feedback, advice, or suggestions you may have.
The "Install from github" section on README.md file should be improved.
Should I open a PR?

Any idea to show the performance more user-friendly? (e.g, currently, it is: it/s = iterations / second)
It seems like it works well? what do you want to add or update?
(inference_from_file.py)
model.set_ddpm_inference_steps(num_steps=6)
Reduce num_steps to 6 doubles the performance.
I wonder if you have done any benchmark for time-quality tradeoff like this?
Or should I do it? :)

We tested with num_steps=5, which resulted in lower audio quality. Our recommended setting is 10, though you can adjust this value to balance speech and quality based on your needs.
Hi friends,
Thank you
@YaoyaoChang
and thank you
@yuhung
for bringing this to my attention. I've tested here and can confirm GPU usage using both CLI and web-based gradio demos.
I'll review the details and propose an update to the README.md with guidance for the Apple MPS user base.

@vuhung 7.5 iter means 1 second of generated audio, maybe this is more user-friendly.

I'm using --inference_steps 20. 10 steps would result in model collapse/instability in the speech decoding path when using some custom voices and longer transcripts. It will generate a one second (or longer but still shorter than it should be) audio when this happens.
Does anyone have instructions for running inferrence on apple silicon now that the github page is gone? I see the models can be downloaded from elsewhere, but I can't clone the github repo any more.

@fivestones
There're some backup repos:
https://github.com/rsxdalv/VibeVoice/
https://github.com/paperwave/VibeVoice/
Here is the commit which implemented Apple MPS support into the demos https://github.com/gregory-fanous/VibeVoice
I wonder what happened. Even the large model was removed from HF but there are mirrors.
Get VibeVoice running on Mac OS Silicon:
git clone https://github.com/TODO/path/to/VibeVoice.git
cd VibeVoice/
Python 3.13.7 is proven to work

@YaoyaoChang is there an official (or non) statement from MSFT as to what happened to the repo and larger models? We were really looking forward to the streaming version and I was looking forward to any way I could continue contributing. Thanks for any info
