The hidden cost of Google's AI defaults and the illusion of choice
There's no questioning that AI technology is making rapid strides, offering an almost limitless supply of applications and benefits. The large tech companies have already developed AI platforms with varied features aimed at making complex jobs easier and more efficient. We live in an age where getting a personalized shopping list or accurate recommendations is no longer a dream. These convenient uses of AI and machine learning were praised for a long time. However, the hidden cost of such technology is becoming increasingly visible.
Despite allegations of spying and breaching consumer privacy, Google keeps building advances in AI. Its model is getting more sophisticated over time, leading to enhanced product offerings and diverse services such as "real-time" speech recognition, image recognition, and machine learning.
It seems Google is taking a vast leap towards self-learning and autonomous systems that enable its algorithms to implement decisions on behalf of the user, regardless of the consequences.
