Why
Hello! If you've stumbled upon this post, your passion for developing and enhancing Odoo mirrors my own. My journey in wholesale distribution began in 1997, and since 2003, I've been steering my own company. My adventure with Odoo kicked off when it was still dubbed TinyERP! Throughout the years, I have tailored Odoo to align with the nuanced demands of wholesale distributors, leveraging insights from an end-user’s perspective.
As we transition into a new era of development, I am thrilled about collaborating to fortify and advance the platform. Our goal is not solely for our individual gain but to significantly uplift Odoo's product and its overall brand. Although I may not be the most adept coder, my deep understanding of what the system necessitates fuels my commitment to dive in and actively contribute to our shared objectives.
Looking forward
My ambition extends beyond merely refining the apps to enhance intuitiveness and functionality; I am keen to integrate as many AI agents as conceivable! Here are some pivotal areas that are essential from my perspective as an end user, not as a developer or business trying to sell a SAAS.
Sales RAG Conversational Chatbots for Product Data: Enabling both end users and sales teams to swiftly access extensive product data and receive recommendations. Operating within the industrial and hospitality supplies industry, my company manages over 100 million products across numerous catalogs. These bots would query the database and even fetch additional product details from manufacturers as needed, providing targeted responses to specific requests like, “I need ‘x’ product for ‘y’ task.”
Customer Service & Accounting: A straightforward RAG capable of handling queries related to accounts, customer data, and accounting specifics. It could, for instance, recount how many units of a product were purchased in a past quarter or compute the cost per unit based on the most recent orders.
Voice-to-Voice Interaction: This feature aims to reduce reliance on screens, particularly useful when driving, enabling ERP access through voice commands similar to interacting with Siri.
Image to Text (Voice): This would allow both customers and salespeople to upload images of products for identification and suggestions, based on historical purchases or general recommendations, even when details like item numbers or sizes are unknown.
AI Route Mapping: A crucial development for distributors with their own fleets. While large corporations have utilized advanced routing services for years, integrating such capabilities directly within the ERP could revolutionize operations for smaller to mid-sized enterprises that lack the resources for elaborate systems or expensive services.
WMS, E-commerce, Customer Portal, and Ordering: Although AI now readily supports these features, I'm eager to revamp the UI, WMS, customer portal, and B2B customer interaction methods for order input. Open-source platforms like WordPress and WooCommerce surpass even the fundamental functionalities that Odoo offers. Don’t believe either of those 2 platforms offer enterprise grade solutions. We need to help elevate Odoo to compete effectively. When looking at other distributor/b2b solutions, looking at systems like Pepperi or Sysco could provide insights into improving the much need customer catalog, portal, and ordering processes functionally. Currently, Odoo's overly generic layout, WMS and portal doesn’t suit a B2B environment well. There are so many options available, like Flutter, but even the basic abilities under Wordpress make Odoos WMS feel like hard coding HTML. These are straightforward changes and implementations where AI can significantly contribute.
Happy coding! Let’s harness these innovative ideas to elevate Odoo to unprecedented heights!
They've been incredibly supportive, utilizing our open-source apps and feedback to enhance their entire solution. It's time for us to step up our game and reciprocate the love they've shown us.
