Free D&D Statblock Generator

This Space is a free DnD statblock generator for Dungeons & Dragons 5e and the 2024 (5.5e) rules. You bring the creature — a one-sentence concept or your rough homebrew notes — and it returns a clean, formatted, rules-ready stat block in the official layout. It formats what you already have; it does not invent a monster for you, and it does not pad the result with lore paragraphs, tactics advice, or loot. The output is the stat block, nothing else.

What it formats

Every run returns the classic stat-block layout as structured, editable Markdown:

• Name and identity line — size, creature type, and alignment in the official italic format
• Armor Class with its source, Hit Points with the dice formula, and Speed
• Ability scores with modifiers precomputed
• Saves, skills, and defenses — resistances, immunities, vulnerabilities, and condition immunities spelled out, or "None"
• Senses and languages, including passive Perception
• Challenge line — CR, XP value, and proficiency bonus for encounter budgeting
• 1-4 named traits and 2-5 named actions in rules language, with attack bonuses and save DCs that follow from the printed scores
• Bonus Actions & Reactions and Legendary Actions sections that appear only when the creature actually has them

Output comes with one-click copy and a .md download, so it drops straight into Obsidian, Notion, your VTT, or printed prep notes.

Inputs

The creature concept or notes field is the heart of the tool — paste as little as one sentence or as much as a full page of half-finished homebrew. Optionally set a target challenge rating (1/8 through 20), size, and creature type, tick a box for legendary actions, and add specific mechanical requests like "give it a fear aura." Anything left blank is inferred from your concept, and the Surprise Me button rolls the CR, size, and type while leaving your concept untouched.

Example

Rustbound Sentinel — from the concept "a knight cursed to rust, still guarding the vault door he died defending," formatted at CR 6 (2,300 XP): a Medium construct with AC 16 (rusted plate), 119 hit points (14d8 + 56), two +7 greatblade attacks that carry a necrotic rust rider, a Recharge 5-6 cone of corroding dust at DC 15, a parry reaction, and a trait that eats the party's nonmagical weapons. No legendary actions were requested, so the block has none.

How this differs from the D&D Monster Builder

The two tools point in opposite directions. This generator formats a creature you already have: the concept, the flavor, and any mechanics you have chosen stay yours, and the tool's job is to arrange them into a consistent, correctly laid-out block. The D&D Monster Builder invents an entire monster from scratch — concept, lore, stat block, DM tactics, and loot — even from a blank form. Reach for the builder when you want ideas; reach for this page when the idea exists and needs to become rules.

How the numbers are kept honest

Formatting includes the math. The generator holds the block to the target CR's expected band for armor class, hit points, attack bonus, save DCs, and damage, per the Dungeon Master's Guide monster-building guidance; the hit-point dice formula genuinely averages to the stated total; and every bonus in the traits and actions derives from the ability scores and the proficiency bonus in the challenge line. Numbers you supplied are preserved unless they are internally impossible.
