# Photo Enhancer by the MegaPotato AI upscaler (megapotato.app)
A free online photo enhancer from the [MegaPotato AI upscaler](https://megapotato.app/?s=hf-photo-enhancer-readme).
It restores detail in noisy, soft or heavily compressed photos, at the same size or 2× larger, and works with what is
in the photo instead of drawing new faces or text.
## How to enhance a photo
1. Choose or drop a PNG, JPEG or WebP photo.
2. Pick **Original size** or **2×** and press **Enhance**.
3. Compare Before and After side by side; zoom to 100% or 200%, or use **Inspect** on a phone.
4. To download the full-size result, upload the photo on [megapotato.app](https://megapotato.app/tool?s=hf-photo-enhancer-readme)
(new accounts get free chips).
The examples are real results.
## Free demo limits
Log in to Hugging Face to enhance your own photos: **2 runs a day** in this Space (per network address, rolling
24 hours), with the same model and size limits as the product. The examples work for everyone.
## Benchmark
In MegaPotato's [blind test of 18 AI upscalers](https://megapotato.app/blog/best-ai-image-upscalers-2026?s=hf-photo-enhancer-readme)
the model turned none of 67 faces into a different person; creative upscalers changed up to three in four. It is
MegaPotato's own evaluation and MegaPotato is one of the products compared; the article gives the method, the results
and open data under CC BY 4.0.
## How this Space works
This Space is a static HTML page. Uploads go to a MegaPotato service on Cloudflare that holds the API key, applies
the demo limits and passes the image to the MegaPotato API. The proprietary model runs on MegaPotato's GPUs; the
model weights are not published. Images are handled under the MegaPotato
[Privacy Policy](https://megapotato.app/privacy) and [Terms](https://megapotato.app/terms). Every image is reviewed
automatically before processing, and images that may not meet our content rules are refused. The original is deleted
once the run finishes and the result about an hour after the upload.
The same model is available through the [MegaPotato REST API](https://megapotato.app/developers?s=hf-photo-enhancer-readme).
## Feedback
Use this Space's Community tab to report errors or share feedback. Only share images you are comfortable making
public.
## Credits and licensing
Example photos, from Wikimedia Commons: Wil Blanche and Jack Corn (Documerica, U.S. National Archives) and Jack
Delano (FSA/OWI, Library of Congress) are U.S. federal government works in the public domain; the two Harris & Ewing
photographs (Library of Congress) are marked "no known restrictions on publication". Sources are listed in `examples/examples.json`. Font: MP Sans, a subset of Liberation
Sans under the SIL Open Font License (`assets/fonts/OFL.txt`). Demo code: MIT license; access to the proprietary
model and API is governed by the MegaPotato service terms.
