## About
MikaLabs is a STEM education company. This Hugging Face organization is where we publish our **open** work: the **Vector-1** model family β€” teaching-assistant models built to help educators create real classroom materials in Maths and the Sciences, and small enough to run locally and offline.
---
## The Vector-1 Model Family
Each model identifies itself as **Vector**, a teaching assistant by MikaLabs.
| Model | Type | Size | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Vector-L1-4B** | Light language model | 4B | βœ… **Released** |
| **Vector-1-14B** | Language model | 14B | πŸ‹οΈ In training |
| **Vector-R1** | Reasoning model | β€” | πŸ”œ Coming soon |
| **Vector-V1** | Vision model | β€” | πŸ”œ Coming soon |
The naming follows a simple scheme: **L** for Light (small, consumer-hardware models), **R** for Reasoning, **V** for Vision, and the version number that follows.
---
## Vector-L1-4B β€” our first release
**Vector-L1-4B** is the first and smallest member of the family β€” a 4B-parameter open language model designed to run on modest consumer hardware so that schools and individual teachers can use it locally and offline.
It is built as a teaching-assistant model for educators across K–12 / secondary **Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics**, and it punches well above its size at the things teachers actually need:
- **Differentiated worksheets** β€” multi-tier (support / core / extension) question sets with genuine difficulty progression.
- **Professional mark schemes** β€” separating method marks (M) from answer marks (A), the way real exam marking works.
- **Misconception guides** β€” the specific errors students make on a topic, and how to address them.
- **Structured lesson plans** β€” objectives, starters, main activities, and plenaries.
- **Mixed-format questions** β€” short answer, true/false with justification, fill-in-the-blank, calculation, and explain-your-reasoning, without defaulting to multiple choice.
- **Strong instruction-following** β€” handling complex, multi-part requests (e.g. "three tiers, a mark scheme, misconceptions, no multiple choice, output as markdown").
- **Accurate level calibration** and clean, ready-to-use output with no conversational filler.
**License:** Apache 2.0 Β· **Language:** English Β· **Domain:** K–12 / secondary Maths and the Sciences
> Vector-L1-4B is a teaching aid, not a substitute for a qualified teacher's judgement. It is not intended for high-stakes or unsupervised assessment without human review, and it is specialised β€” general chat, coding, and non-STEM subjects are out of scope.
