Apply for a GPU community grant: Personal project
I’m building SemaLabs, a multilingual AI tool that translates, summarizes, and synthesizes documents in African languages using state-of-the-art open-source models. Users can upload government bills, policy documents, or complex memos and receive clear, accessible summaries in languages starting with Kikuyu, Luo, Swahili, Zulu, Xhosa, and Afrikaans.
This project addresses the digital and language inclusion gap in Africa. Many communities struggle to access critical information because it’s only available in English, French, or other colonial languages. My Space leverages open-source AI models via Docker and Gradio to provide a fast, interactive, and accessible interface.
A GPU grant would allow me to host and scale this Space, run large TTS and translation models efficiently, and make it publicly accessible for anyone who needs it, without incurring personal cloud costs.
