Why not full state-vector simulation?

To keep runtime inside hackathon constraints and ensure reproducibility on CPU.

Why does hard score lower than easy?

Hard combines drift and larger code distance with longer horizon.

Is the benchmark deterministic?

Yes, under fixed seed.
