## Files Created
### HTML Template
- `templates/chat.html` - Main chat interface template
### CSS Styles
- `static/css/chat.css` - Complete responsive styling with:
- Modern gradient design
- Responsive breakpoints
- Dark mode support
- Smooth animations
- Code block styling
### JavaScript Client
- `static/js/chat.js` - WebSocket client with:
- ChatClient class for managing connections
- Real-time message handling
- Language switching
- Syntax highlighting integration
- Error handling and notifications
## How to Use
1. **Start the Flask Application**
```bash
python app.py
```
2. **Open Browser**
- Navigate to `http://localhost:5000`
- The chat interface will load automatically
3. **Chat Features**
- Type messages in the input field
- Press Enter to send (Shift+Enter for new lines)
- Select different programming languages from dropdown
- Click code blocks to copy them
- Monitor connection status in header
## Demo Mode
The current implementation includes a demo WebSocket handler that:
- Simulates streaming responses
- Handles language switching
- Provides helpful demo messages
- Shows all UI features working
## Integration with Backend
The frontend is designed to work with the full chat agent backend. Key integration points:
### WebSocket Events
- `connect` - Establish connection with auth
- `message` - Send chat messages
- `language_switch` - Change programming language
- `disconnect` - Clean disconnection
### Expected Backend Events
- `connection_status` - Connection confirmation
- `response_start` - Begin streaming response
- `response_chunk` - Stream response content
- `response_complete` - End streaming response
- `language_switched` - Language change confirmation
- `error` - Error notifications
## Browser Compatibility
- Modern browsers with WebSocket support
- Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge
- Mobile browsers (iOS Safari, Chrome Mobile)
- Fallback to polling for older browsers
## Performance Features
- Efficient DOM updates
- Smooth scrolling to new messages
- Optimized syntax highlighting
- Minimal memory footprint
- Automatic cleanup on disconnect
## Security Considerations
- Input sanitization for XSS prevention
- Message length limits (2000 characters)
- Rate limiting ready (handled by backend)
- Secure WebSocket connections (WSS in production)
## Next Steps
The frontend is ready for integration with:
1. Full chat agent backend (Task 11)
2. User authentication system
3. Session persistence
4. Chat history loading
5. File upload capabilities
6. Advanced code execution features
## Testing
The interface has been tested with:
- WebSocket connection establishment
- Message sending and receiving
- Language switching
- Error handling
- Responsive design
- Code copying functionality
- Real-time streaming responses
