NOVOYAZ allows researchers to upload images of pre-reform Russian-language documents and receive as a result the text in modern Russian orthography.
This work is being performed (almost exclusively manually) by historians and archivists everywhere from the United States to the Russian Federation and has significant cultural, historical, and academic value.
This Hugging Face Space is being productionzed as novoyaz.io and access to a dedicated OCR model with GPU would be absolutely incredible to make it realistic to support the continued proliferation of this project.
I am already in touch with multiple historical archives and organizations that are interested in using this application to immediately contribute to the expediency of their important work.
