Prompt Design

RAG Prompt Goals

The prompt should:

• Force the model to use retrieved context
• Prevent hallucinated answers
• Ask the model to admit when context is missing
• Encourage source-aware responses
• Keep answers simple and useful

Default Rule

If the answer is not present in the retrieved context, the model should say:

"I do not know from the provided knowledge base."

Prompt Versioning

Every production prompt should have a version.
