BAYAN — Phase 7 Completion Report
Objective Met
Bayan has been successfully transformed into a robust, cloud-synced application with professional-grade offline support and conflict resolution.

UI Update (bayan:syncstate events)
Key Implementations
1. Sync Queue (sync-queue.js)
- Uses durable
localStorageto queue pending changes. - Prevents data loss if the browser crashes or loses internet connection before a sync completes.
- Handles retries by incrementing a retry counter for failed API calls.
2. Sync Manager (sync-manager.js)
- Replaced the naive
setIntervalwith an intelligent 2.5-second debounce system. - Listens for
onlineandofflinebrowser events to pause/resume queue flushing. - Triggers custom UI events (
bayan:syncstate) so the UI can display exact sync statuses ("Saving...", "Saved", "Saved Locally").
3. Sync Resolver (sync-resolver.js)
- Implements the "Latest timestamp wins" rule when the user opens a document that has a pending offline local draft and a cloud version.
- Falls back to "Server wins" if timestamps are invalid.
4. Performance Optimizations
- No Spam Writes: By combining debouncing with the durable queue, Supabase only receives a single write request 2.5 seconds after the user completely stops typing.
- No Duplicate Listeners: The legacy autosave timer was fully removed from
documents-ui.js. - UI Decoupling: The editor logic remains 100% agnostic to the cloud logic, preserving the core engine constraint.
Security & Verification
- RLS Enforced: Row Level Security remains fully active and unbypassed.
- Stress Test Scenarios Validated:
- Rapid Typing: Properly throttled to a single API call per burst.
- Offline Mode: Automatically queues changes, updates the "Saved Locally" UI, and silently flushes the moment the internet connection returns.
- Refresh/Reloads: Due to the combination of
sessionStoragerouting and the local draft backups, users stay exactly where they were without any flashes, and text is instantly restored prior to any network requests.
Conclusion
Phase 7 is COMPLETE. Bayan's data layer is now resilient, efficient, and production-ready. We are ready to proceed to Phase 8 (Deployment).
