Virtual SSD Simulation Todo List

Phase 3: Implement VirtualFlash and persistence mechanisms

  • Implement VirtualFlash to simulate NAND cells with a large sparse file or dictionary.
  • Use sqlite or shelve to store only written pages (to save RAM) or mmap/write a virtual .vdisk file.
  • Implement persistence for VirtualFlash state.

Phase 4: Implement FileSystemMap and SSDController (FTL)

  • Implement FileSystemMap to emulate FAT32 or EXT4.
  • Store file tree as JSON or dict in RAM (save as "superblock").
  • Implement SSDController (FTL) for LBA to PPN mapping.
  • Implement wear leveling and garbage collection.

Phase 5: Implement AppInterface, VirtualOS, VirtualDriver, and Kernel Buffering

  • Implement AppInterface for save/read file operations.
  • Implement VirtualOS to handle file system, allocate memory, buffering.
  • Implement VirtualDriver to translate write commands into block ops.
  • Implement Kernel Buffering (Write Cache) with VirtualRAMBuffer.

Phase 6: Integrate all components and test the virtual SSD

  • Integrate all implemented modules.
  • Implement full interaction chain.
  • Test read/write/mount/unmount operations.
  • Implement persistence for FTL and file map states.

Phase 7: Develop a web UI to visualize SSD capacity and files

  • Create a web UI project.
  • Develop UI to display SSD capacity (total, used, free).
  • Develop UI to display files and their properties.
  • Connect UI to the virtual SSD backend.

Phase 8: Present the web UI and virtual SSD functionality

  • Deploy the web UI.
  • Demonstrate the virtual SSD functionality through the UI.

Phase 9: Modify VirtualFlash for in-memory storage

  • Create VirtualFlashMemory class that stores data in RAM.

Phase 10: Modify FileSystemMap for in-memory storage

  • Create FileSystemMapMemory class that stores metadata in RAM.

Phase 11: Modify SSDController for in-memory storage

  • Create SSDControllerMemory class that stores FTL data in RAM.

Phase 12: Update VirtualSSD and other components to remove file persistence

  • Update VirtualSSD to use in-memory versions of components.
  • Remove file-based persistence logic from VirtualSSD.
  • Update ssd_api.py to use the in-memory VirtualSSD.
  • Remove old persistence-based files.
