Important: Competition Update: Team merging and Deadline Shift.
Dear S23DR 2026 Participants,
We apologize for the late notice, but we have to make two important announcements.
- Since Hugging Face does not support team merging for this competition,
we ask teams with multiple participants/accounts to complete the team
merging form:
https://forms.gle/kBoQMaiWMm4XAxqZ7
Please use the same leaderboard prefix for all submissions belonging
to your team. The organizers will use this information to manually
merge teams for the final leaderboard.
If you do NOT belong to the same team, but by coincidence have the same prefix, please remove it.
To be clear - if one belongs to the same team -- you are required to merge.
But if you just belong to the same (big) organization, such as university level (Stanford) or company (NVIDIA), you are not required to form the team, if you are not in one.
On top of this, you have to select one final HF account to do the final submission, and specify it in the form to be eligible for prize.
- In order to make the last moment team merging go smoothly, we postpone the competition deadline to
30 May 2026 UTC, 00:0028 May 2026 UTC, 00:00.
The writeup deadline is shifted to 30 May 2026 UTC, 23:59. So, please prepare your write-ups beforehand.
Best regards,
S23DR-2026 Organizers
Thank you for the clarification.
However, I would like to raise a concern about the timing of this decision. This announcement comes extremely late, effectively at the original deadline. Extending the submission deadline at this point changes the conditions of the competition after participants have already planned their work, submissions, and in some cases travel around the original schedule.
The deadline extension also creates a practical problem. For participants who needed the original results to decide whether to attend CVPR, postponing the deadline by several days may make attendance impossible. Buying flights and arranging travel only two days before departure is not realistic for many people.
Could the organizers consider freezing new submissions now and allowing only team-merging/write-up administration during the extension period? That would address the merging issue without changing the competitive conditions at the last moment.
Best,
Jan
We are sorry for the troubles our decision caused.
Our reasoning was that original deadline is already very close to the CVPR, so it would unlikely for someone to base their attendance decision solely on the S23DR competition results. As it turns out we were wrong in that reasoning.
The deadline moving decision was not based solely on the team merging issue, but mainly on the technical problems we, and some other participants recently experienced on HF -- which is outside of our control and we believe that it would fair for compensate for this.
We also understand that moving the deadline possibly introduces another source of unfairness, but we believe that it is the lesser evil.
P.S. Given your team current position on the leaderboard, it would be reasonable to book the tickets though.
I agree with Jan! I've also planned much of my work around this, and sure HF was down for about 1h or so now, you can extend by 1h to compensate, but why 4 days?
All the best,
Ludde
In fact, that is not 4 days, but 2 days, and we cannot extend by hours.
There was the discrepancy between official intended deadline, as set in rules, and technical HF deadline -- which was set forward to make sure that the private leaderboard is not released too early -- which made a big damage to the one of the CLEF competitions a couple of years ago.
Specifically, HF does not allow to set the timezone AND the time. So it is always UTC 00:00, and we hoped to find the workaround, but could not.
Finally, we decided to get rid of such discrepancy -- and eliminate possible submissions after the stated deadline, but within the HF setup.
I understand, that it is confusing.
It is likely to be the last competition we are doing on the HF.
Hi all,
I completely agree with @jskvrna and @LDillen that extending the deadline after it has already passed seems unfair.
To offer another perspective: knowing the original deadline in advance, we adjusted our schedules and set aside time from other responsibilities to meet it. We realistically cannot dedicate another four days to this and I'm afraid that could influence the final ranking.
Thanks for considering this.
