| # Learning & Reasoning (L&R) β VU Amsterdam |
| **Learning & Reasoning (L&R)** is a research group at the Department of Computer Science, Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam. |
| ## Mission |
| The group's central question is: *How do we build AI models that can both learn **and** reason?* This sits at the intersection of machine learning and symbolic/knowledge-based AI, with a strong focus on **neuro-symbolic AI** β combining the pattern recognition strengths of neural networks with the structured reasoning of symbolic systems. |
| ## Key Research Themes |
| - **Neuro-symbolic AI** β integrating neural and symbolic approaches to learning and reasoning |
| - **Knowledge Graphs** β representation, learning, and reasoning over structured knowledge |
| - **Common Sense & Cognitive AI** β building AI systems with human-like common sense |
| - **Hybrid Intelligence** β combining human and machine intelligence collaboratively |
| - **Biomedical & Scientific AI** β applying knowledge graphs and ML in healthcare and life sciences |
