Commercial & Proprietary Licensing

open-xdna is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPLv3) — see LICENSE. The AGPLv3 is a strong network-copyleft license: if you modify this software or use it to provide a service over a network (including AI inference APIs, SaaS pipelines, or cloud-side compute offloading), AGPLv3 §13 requires you to make the complete corresponding source of your application available to its users under the same terms.

When you need a commercial license

The AGPLv3 is ideal for open-source and research use. You should obtain a separate commercial / proprietary license if you want to:

  • Integrate open-xdna (or its techniques as implemented here) into a closed-source product or internal service without the AGPLv3 source-disclosure obligation;
  • Offer a hosted/SaaS service built on this code without publishing your backend;
  • Ship it inside proprietary firmware, an appliance, or an OEM product;
  • Obtain a warranty, indemnification, or a support/SLA arrangement.

This is a standard open-core dual-licensing model: the same code is available under AGPLv3 (free, copyleft) or a commercial license (paid, no copyleft obligations).
